Pension planner
An illustrative defined-contribution pension projection. Your financial inputs stay in this session only — they are not stored or sent. This is not advice and does not recommend investments, transfers or contribution levels.
Your age
Ages only — no date of birth is requested or stored.
Pension pots
Your current defined-contribution pot(s). Additional pots are projected at the same rate and shown as a combined total.
Contributions
Regular contributions to your pension. Choose fixed amounts or percentages of a pensionable salary.
Growth and charges (illustrative)
These are assumptions, not forecasts or guaranteed outcomes. Real returns vary year to year and are rarely smooth.
One-off contributions
Optional lump sums added at a specific age (for example a bonus or inheritance).
No one-off contributions added.
Retirement income target
The income you aim for in retirement, in today's money. Drawdown uses a before-tax target.
Other retirement income
Optional annual income from other sources, in today's money. These are user-supplied assumptions — the tool does not infer entitlements.
No other retirement income added. Add the State Pension, defined-benefit pensions or other income to model the gap before they start.
All figures are user-supplied assumptions. This tool does not infer your State Pension entitlement, qualifying years or State Pension age. For an official forecast, use the government service (opens in a new tab — no entered values are sent): gov.uk/check-state-pension
Drawdown illustration
How the pot is drawn down in retirement. The pot is projected in today's money (real terms) so it can be compared to your income target. This is an illustration, not a drawdown recommendation.
Cannot project yet
Enter your current age as a whole number between 16 and 75.
How this works: a single monthly projection engine converts annual growth and inflation to monthly equivalents, applies charges as a monthly rate (annual charge ÷ 12), adds contributions at the end of each month, and increases salary and contributions on each annual anniversary. Separate pots are projected at the same rate and shown as a combined total. The drawdown illustration works in real terms (today's money) so the pot, your income target and other income are compared consistently; other income sources only contribute once you reach their start age, modelling the gap before State Pension or other pensions begin.
Assumptions and limitations: growth, charges and inflation are illustrative assumptions, not forecasts or guaranteed outcomes. Real investment returns vary year to year and are rarely smooth — a smooth projection does not show that. The drawdown illustration uses smooth returns and does not model market volatility, sequence-of-returns risk or longevity uncertainty; it is not an annuity quote or a drawdown recommendation, and does not describe the withdrawal as a safe or sustainable rate. The lump sum is a simple reduction of the pot and is not automatically described as tax-free. Retirement income is calculated before tax; after-tax targets cannot be compared without a verified retirement tax model. Other retirement income figures (including the State Pension) are user-supplied assumptions — the tool does not infer entitlement, qualifying years or State Pension age. This tool does not model defined-benefit pensions as pots (enter those as income), tax in retirement, pension annual allowance limits, or salary-sacrifice National Minimum Wage checks. Always confirm terms with your pension provider.
